Premier Daniel Andrews has refused to detail how he will create real jobs for Hazelwood workers after two years of rising unemployment in the Latrobe Valley.
In Parliament, Member for Morwell Russell Northe asked the Andrews Labor Government how they planned to create new jobs in the Valley before Hazelwood closes in March, when it had failed to do so in the past.
“Daniel Andrews refused to say why he failed to fight for the jobs of Hazelwood workers and why he was yet to create jobs for those left unemployed since December 2014,” Mr Northe said.
“The Latrobe Valley is already in the midst of an employment crisis of Daniel Andrews’ making.
“Daniel Andrews has failed to find jobs for thousands already left unemployed, he can’t be trusted to find hundreds more by April.”
Unemployment is at 19.7 per cent in Morwell, while the unemployment rate has risen by 50 per cent in Latrobe City in the past two years.
“Daniel Andrews has wanted the closure of Hazelwood for six years, yet he has no plan to create jobs now he has his wish,” Mr Northe said.
“The Latrobe Valley is worse off under Daniel Andrews’ Government. It is harder to get a job and harder to run a business.
“What our community needs now are real jobs, not a divisive Premier who puts politics ahead of people.”
