Member for Morwell Russell Northe had previously written to the Minister for Regional Development seeking an update on the Andrews Labor Governments pre-election commitment to develop an extra 800 car spaces across the townships of Traralgon and Morwell.
Lack of car parking spaces within these two towns has been an ongoing challenge for people who visit or work within the CBD areas of Morwell and Traralgon.
The pre-election commitment of an extra 800 car spaces was therefore welcomed by local businesses, workers and community members.
“The Minister has now responded stating that further community consultation will occur later this year with regards to proposed short listed sites,” said Mr Northe.
It is still somewhat unclear as to how many car spaces will be constructed in each of the two towns but hopefully this information will become clearer prior to the end of this year.
“Unfortunately previous Government car parking commitments have not been delivered as initially promised, and it’s important the same does not apply to this commitment.
In recent times 100 new car spaces were promised at Traralgon Railway Station and only 93 were delivered, whilst the Morwell community still waits for the promised 60 new car spaces at the Morwell Railway Station.
