Member for Morwell Russell Northe today tabled another 411 petitions calling on the Andrews Government to provide funding for the construction of the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre in Traralgon. The community has previously demonstrated its support for the GRAC with 3,575 people having signed petitions to shows their support for the development of a Traralgon Indoor Pool.
Mr Northe said the existing outdoor pool is substantially outdated and under-utilised, and has not had any significant investment since it’s opening in 1959.
“With a growing population of more than 28,000 residents, and given the recent closure of the privately owned Traralgon Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre it’s now time for this major project to be delivered,” Mr Northe said.
“Daniel Andrews keeps talking about investing in our region; he should support the Latrobe Valley by investing in this worthwhile project.”
Mr Northe said Latrobe City Council have previously adopted concept plans for the GRAC and prior to the 2014 election the Coalition pledged $9 million towards the construction of this facility.
“Unfortunately this same commitment has not been made by the current Andrews Labor Government,” Mr Northe said.
“There is enormous potential to expand on the number of participants and users which can only enhance health outcomes for many within our community.
“However the development’s progression requires financial assistance from the State Government, and I call upon Daniel Andrews to support this important project as a matter of urgency.”
