This week is National Volunteer Week running from 9-15 May, volunteer week is an important time to celebrate the work of the many volunteers in the Latrobe Valley and the vital contribution they make to the community, Member for Morwell Russell Northe said.
Mr Northe said the annual celebration is a fantastic way to recognise the work of the numerous everyday people in local communities who make extraordinary contributions through volunteering.
“National Volunteer Week is our chance to publicly express our thanks to our many volunteers and to recognise the significant role they play in our communities,” Mr Northe said.
“From firefighting to disaster recovery and clean up, pre-school care to adult education, sport and recreation, community health, arts, heritage, tourism and local government, our volunteers play a vital role.”
Mr Northe thanked the many people in the Latrobe Valley who donated their time and leant their skills and support to help out those in need.
“The phenomenal work done by volunteers during past emergency events demonstrates the willingness of locals to help out in times of need,” Mr Northe said.
“However, the work of volunteers goes much further than just in times of necessity.
“Volunteers are the backbone of regional Victoria, and without their dedication, sacrifice and commitment many local services and activities would simply not exist.”
