The Andrews Labor Government has confirmed today that Morwell Park Primary School will be left out of a major primary schools modernisation plan.
Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the Andrews Labor Government had confirmed the plans at a media event held today to re-announce funding allocated in the 2015-16 State Budget.
“In last year’s election campaign the Liberal-Nationals Coalition committed $13 million to the Morwell schools redevelopment project which was to bring together Commercial Road, Morwell and Tobruk Street Primary Schools on to one site while Morwell Park Primary School was to be redeveloped on its current site.”
Mr Northe said. “Frustratingly, the Andrews Labor Government only allocated $10.45 million in this year’s Budget after promising $12 million before they were elected, and now the Morwell Park redevelopment has been left out of the plan entirely.
“There are some great education benefits that will come from bringing 450 students from the three schools together at one learning site, but we now have some unanswered questions about future investment at Morwell Park Primary.
“This is of great concern to teachers, parents and students at Morwell Park Primary School who will be disadvantaged by the scaled-back plan that Labor has confirmed today. “I will continue to advocate for Morwell Park Primary and all schools in the Latrobe Valley to make sure our communities get a fair share of education investment.”
