Member for Morwell Russell Northe yesterday received a tour of the newly opened Multi-Disciplinary Centre (MDC) in Morwell.
Mr Northe said the new MDC is a one stop shop for victims of sexual abuse and is designed to improve local responses.
“In government, the Liberal-National Coalition provided $4.8 million in the 2012-13 budget towards the construction and operating costs of Morwell’s MDC over four years,” Mr Northe said.
“The MDC co-locates Victoria Police’s sexual offences and child abuse investigative teams, child protection workers and centres for sexual assault, to deliver an integrated multi-agency response to cases.
“Better integration and co-location of agencies improves the way we respond to vulnerable victims.
It allows police to target and investigate perpetrators while ensuring the counselling and safety needs are met by specialised staff and services. “Sexual assault against any person is unacceptable at any time, any place and under any circumstances.”
Mr Northe said the former Liberal-National Coalition government had last year also provided $61,000 in funding for a new project officer to support collaborative activities across partner organisations of the centre.
“The MDC ensures those who have experienced sexual assault are being supported at a crucial time in their lives.”
