Hazelwood power station workers are not the only Latrobe Valley workers neglected by the Andrews Labor Government, Member for Morwell Russell Northe said.
Since December 2014, unemployment has skyrocketed rising 50 per cent in Latrobe City and nearly 10,000 people have lost full-time work in the Latrobe-Gippsland region.
Mr Northe said Daniel Andrews had failed to keep thousands of Latrobe Valley people in work since December 2014.
“Jobs have dried up in the Latrobe Valley since Daniel Andrews was elected and now he has failed to save the jobs of nearly 1000 workers at the Hazelwood power station,” Mr Northe said.
“I have spoken with many unemployed Latrobe Valley locals, as well as Hazelwood workers, contractors and businesses that service the site over the past week and they question how they will be supported by Daniel Andrews and his Government in coming months.
“There is a lot of confusion on how the Andrews Labor Government can deliver jobs to our area after two years of failing to do just this.
“Labor has wanted to close Hazelwood for years, and Hazelwood workers are the latest casualty in a growing unemployment crisis of Daniel Andrews’ making.
“The Latrobe Valley is worse off under Daniel Andrews’ Government. It is harder to get a job and harder to run a business.”
