The Andrews Labor Government has still refused to adequately answer 14 questions asked by Member for Morwell Russell Northe about the establishment of Latrobe Valley’s new CFA District 27.
Mr Northe had previously placed a number of questions on notice to the Andrews Labor Government to detail the implementation plans for District 27 after local CFA volunteers and personnel raised concerns about timing and resources.
“However the Emergency Services Minister Jane Garrett response was simply a palm off with no regard for local concerns,” Mr Northe said.
“The Minister failed to address genuine concerns about the future of District 27, including when it will be properly resourced with staff and equipment so that is why I raised in Parliament again this week our communities concerns.
“Funding of $5.5 million has been allocated to establish District 27, which includes 23 fire stations in the Morwell electorate, but to date all we have is an operations manager supported by a couple of administrative staff.
“We are coming into peak bushfire season and the new District is not fully operational or fully resourced, and local people continue to raise concerns with me that staff and equipment will be transferred from other districts to create District 27.
Mr Northe also asked the Andrews Labor Government why local CFA brigades had still not undertaken specialised brown coal fire training as promised, and where and when will the promised new Morwell fire station be built.
