The Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews has neglected the Latrobe Valley following recent failures of EPA monitoring equipment in the region.
Member for Morwell Russell Northe today in Parliament criticised Mr Andrews for his handling of the EPA monitoring equipment failures and the hypocrisy he has demonstrated to locals. Mr Northe conveyed his concerns and disappointment in the Andrews Labor Government after EPA monitoring equipment at Morwell South recently failed twice in two weeks.
Speaking in Parliament he said “I was pleased to recently attend a ‘thank you’ event to recognise the outstanding efforts of our emergency services, volunteers and community organisations during the initial response to the fire and subsequent recovery supports”.
“In stark contrast one can’t help but be disappointed in the Premier. We all remember his outspoken criticism of all and sundry during and after the Hazelwood mine fire, but where is the Premier now that under his watch, local EPA air monitoring equipment has failed in recent weeks? “When the local community is seeking answers and confidence from the Government, the now Premier – whilst all talk in Opposition – has been nowhere to be seen or heard on these issues. This is simply a disgrace.” Mr Northe said Mr Andrews was a hypocrite given his political point scoring on matters pertaining to the Hazelwood mine fire when he was in Opposition, compared to his lack of interest and actions now as Premier.
“Many members of the local community are extremely disappointed that the Premier now seems to be uninterested in the Latrobe Valley when things go wrong under his Government when it comes to the Hazelwood mine fire. The failure of EPA monitoring equipment over recent weeks is a prime example of this,” Mr Northe said.
“In Opposition Daniel Andrews made a lot of statements and promises, yet the now Premier seems content to pass the buck and that simply is not good enough.”
