My constituency question is directed to the Minister for Education. Minister, there are a multitude of pedestrian safety issues at Grey Street Primary School, Traralgon and on behalf of parents of students, School Council and the local community I ask, what is the latest information with respect to improving pedestrian safety, and traffic flows in and around the school precinct.
Grey Street Primary School has approximately 500 students and is located within the Traralgon CBD. Unfortunately there have been many incidents and near misses and it is my fear that someone will be seriously hurt or worse if safety improvements are not adopted with some urgency.
Whilst there have been a number of interactions with local authorities with regards to pedestrian safety solutions and initiatives, there has been little or no progression in instigating these same safety improvements. Improvements identified include the installation of a supervised school crossing adjacent to the school in Franklin Street; the installation of bollards at key points in Grey Street; and the implementation of a walking to school initiative.
The reality is that these three initiatives can prevent injury and potentially save lives. Minister, we desperately need your intervention and support to alleviate the serious pedestrian safety issues that exist at Grey Street Primary School Traralgon.
