Member for Morwell Russell Northe is encouraging local Men’s Sheds to apply for funding under the 2016 Men’s Sheds Program to establish new, or refurbish existing facilities.
Mr Northe said Men’s Sheds play a vital role in local communities providing an exchange of skills and important meeting place for men.
“Men’s Sheds are valuable community facilities that give men a place to meet, establish social networks and work on meaningful projects that can have a benefit to the individuals and wider community,” Mr Northe said.
“I would also encourage men in our local community, who are feeling a little isolated, to go along to their local Men’s Shed and get involved,” he said.
“Funding has been delivered to a number of Men’s Shed projects across the Morwell Electorate in the past and the positive results seen from that investment demonstrate how valuable a resource they can be for men’s health.
“I encourage both existing Men’s Sheds and organisations interested in establishing a shed to consider applying for a grant,” Mr Northe said.
Grants of up to $60,000 are available to establish a new Men’s Shed, while grants up to $30,000 are available to refurbish existing men’s sheds. Organisations applying for funding need to be an incorporated not-for-profit organisation or a local council.
Applications close 5pm Friday 27 May 2016.
