Member for Morwell, Russell Northe has challenged the Minister for Energy, Lily D’Ambrosio in Parliament this week.
Minister you have previously stated that the decision to keep Hazelwood fully operating was disgraceful, but since the closure of Hazelwood power station
• we have seen the loss of hundreds of jobs in the Latrobe Valley
• we have seen electricity prices increase substantially
• we now see the prospect of 100 one megawatt diesel powered generators being installed at the old Morwell power station site to secure energy supply for Victoria over the summer period
• This morning Victoria is importing electricity from Tasmania, South Australia and New South Wales and has the highest wholesale price for electricity generation of all these States.
Minister, do you still stand by your statement that the decision to keep Hazelwood fully operating was disgraceful?
Minister, given the fact that hundreds of jobs in the energy industry have been lost, energy prices have escalated and security of supply is under threat, would your Government support the construction of a new High Efficiency Low Emission coal fired power station in the Latrobe Valley? Yes or No.
