Member for Morwell Russell Northe was today thrilled to learn that multiple local road projects have
been funded in round two of the Victorian Governments Fixing Country Roads Program.
“The Fixing Country Roads Program provides an opportunity for Councils to apply for funding for the
purposes of improving local roads, and this is vitally important as the reality is that Councils often do
not have the financial capacity to undertake these works, nor do residents who are often required to
make financial contributions to the sealing of gravel roads on their street” said Mr Northe.
Regional Roads Victoria has announced funding of $575,000 for Latrobe City to deliver key road
improvement projects including the sealing of Black Tank Road and Railway Avenue in Glengarry,
MacPherson Road in Newborough, Buckleys Road in Hazelwood North along with the widening of
sections of Flynns Creek Road in Flynn.
“I know in particular the residents of Black Tank Road and Railway Avenue and the Glengarry
community more generally will be over the moon at this announcement, as they have been lobbying
for many years to have this stretch of road sealed. Indeed I was pleased to support a number of local
communities prior to the 2018 election by calling upon the State Government to assist Councils in
sealing a number of local roads to improve road safety and minimise dust pollution” Mr Northe said.
Mr Northe is hopeful that in future rounds of the Fixing Country Roads Program, that funding will be
allocated to seal roads such as Creamery Road in Yinnar and Groppi Road in Hazelwood North.
Residents along these roads have been calling for road improvements for a long time and it would be
terrific to see their calls be heard and enacted upon.
