Member for Morwell Russell Northe said he had already been contacted by a number of Churchill residents who had expressed their concern that the town was to lose its only aged care facility.
This follows news that Benetas have announced that residents at Hazelwood House in Churchill would be transferred to new facilities at Dalkeith in Traralgon. “The quality of care is paramount for residents and their families, and it seems the new Dalkeith facility in Traralgon will deliver this outcome which is terrific,” said Mr Northe
However, volunteers at Hazelwood House and the Churchill community more generally will be disappointed that a town with a population of approximately 5,000 people ultimately will not have an aged care facility.
“Hazelwood House has been such an iconic feature of the Churchill community for a long time and the dedication and love that has been invested by residents, staff and volunteers is profound,” said Mr Northe
“To learn of the future closure of Hazelwood House is a very sad occasion for many individuals and families in our region,” Mr Northe said. Mr Northe said he hoped other aged care service providers would look favourably on establishing a facility in Churchill into the future.
