As the festive season approaches, many people will take the opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends and take a well-earned rest.
Christmas is a time to remind ourselves of the people who are most important in life, but there are also those who are less fortunate in our community, who can find the Christmas holiday period particularly difficult.
Please take time to think of them and offer a hand to anybody who might be experiencing a tough time this Christmas.
Unfortunately this year, there are additional stresses on many people within the Latrobe Valley.
In recent months, we have learned of the closure of several local businesses, on top of the future closure of Hazelwood Power Station at the end of March.
There are many people who have already been impacted by these job losses and in 2017 I will continue to work for a better outcome for the Latrobe Valley community.
When purchasing your Christmas gifts, I also urge you to make every effort to shop locally to support our business community.
Throughout the year, many of these businesses support community organisations, schools and sporting clubs as well as providing employment to local residents, so let’s give back to our local businesses by shopping with them this festive season.
For those going away, please take care on the roads and be safe.
During the holiday period consider taking time to visit the wonderful attractions that exist within our region. There are plenty of things to do across Gippsland, so why not spend a few days visiting local destinations?
Merry Christmas and best wishes to you and your family for 2017.
