Member for Morwell Russell Northe is encouraging students in years 9, 10 and 11 at Government, Catholic and Independent schools to apply to participate in a study tour of Greece to deepen their understanding of civics and citizenship.
“Recently the State Government announced this unique opportunity which will allow up to 22 Victorian students to travel to Greece as part of a curriculum immersion program” said Mr Northe.
This year’s topic requires students to prepare a personal reflection, short story or expository essay of up to 800 words.
Students are encouraged to submit a written response about democracy, drawing on the classical work of Greek thinkers such as Plato and Aristotle exploring the role of history and evolution of democracy.
“It will be an exciting opportunity for successful applicants to travel, learn and experience Greece’s rich culture, and wouldn’t it be terrific to see a local student afforded such an opportunity” Mr Northe said.
Applications for the Premiers Spirit of Democracy prize opened on October 22, 2019 and close on Thursday, 12 December 2019.
