A former business manager and football champion, Russell is looking forward to the challenge of working on behalf of his constituents.
A ‘born and bred’ Gippslander, he’s nominated health, education and jobs as some of the key areas he’ll be seeking to improve on behalf of Latrobe Valley residents.
Married, with three young children, Russell hopes to work with his local community to achieve a better outcome for the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland. With a history of working for local clubs and businesses, it’s a task he’s well qualified for.
You may know Russell from the time he spent wearing a maroon jersey on the footy field – Russell played over 300 games for the Traralgon Football Club and featured in seven premierships, including three as a coach. His distinguished football career also saw him coach Rosedale in the NGFL from 2003-05 and the Gippsland Power under 16 team in 2001.
Outside of football, Russell takes a keen interest in a range of sports and is actively involved in his children’s various activities.
When asked why he sought election to State Parliament, Russell says, “As a father with three young children, I want my family to be able to enjoy the great lifestyle we have to offer in Gippsland and a safe and secure future.
I’m passionate about our region and I believe we need a strong representative who will always stand up for us.
I think Gippsland contributes an enormous amount to the wealth of this state but when I look around at our facilities and services, I don’t think we’re getting our fair share of government funding.
Improvements have been made but the pace of change is too slow.
I’m proud to stand up for our region and demand our fair share of government funding and I will listen to anyone who has a good idea.
By working together we really can make a difference and I’m looking forward to meeting as many people as possible in the weeks and months ahead.”
